Mirage Theatre Company is a New York City based non-profit theatre company, working with diverse artists and audiences to bring about "creative change."
Plays are presented in all phases of development: staged readings; workshops; and fully staged productions. A project can begin at any phase, depending on readiness. The development process allows us to receive feedback from audiences and colleagues. Stage projects that resonate with audiences become part of a “Living Repertoire”, for continued presentation locally, nationally, and abroad.
Collaborating partner organizations make it possible for Mirage Theatre to create projects, providing benefits such as rehearsal space, promotion and audiences. Current partners include: American Indian Artists for Cedars (NYC); Red Eagle Soaring Native Youth Theatre for Cedars (Seattle); Unitarian Universalists Fellowship of Poughkeepsie for Distant Survivors (Mid-Hudson Valley); and Mid-Hudson Heritage Center for Sea Marks (Mid-Hudson Valley).

History

Founded in 1988 by Artistic Directors, Miranda d’Ancona and Doris Kaufman, Mirage Theatre Company has been a significant part of the New York City theatre community for over 20 years, nurturing aspiring theatre and musical artists, and producing numerous plays and music works. During the company’s tenure at The Perry Street Theatre, they produced an exciting array of dramatic and musical performances. Mirage staged full productions of plays by new playwrights including Christopher Widney’s Big, Fat and Ugly with a Mustache; Ben Morse’s The Goat; and actor Ron McClarty’s The Dropper. These plays addressed important social questions and were greeted with rave reviews. They also produced Noel Coward’s Suite in Two Keys starring Hayley Mills at the Lucille Lortel Theatre and The Flashing Stream by Charles Morgan at Theatre Three, directed by Miranda d’Ancona.
Mirage also produced its popular concert series – classical as well as cabaret performances – among them Sweet Song by Ricky Ian Gordon starring Angelina Réaux, and Celebrating America, crowned by the company’s annual New Year’s Eve concert including a performance at Merkin Hall.
June Prager assumed leadership of Mirage Theatre Company in October 2010 until 2019. She remains an active member of the Board of Directors.
