Cedars: Excerpts from the Premiere - Seattle, Washington (2002)
Produced by Red Eagle Soaring in 2002
CEDARS received its first professional premiere in Seattle, produced by Red Eagle Soaring Native Youth Theatre in 2002. This new production has been revised with additional text and movement design.
Through the poetic voice of contemporary writers from Native American tribes, CEDARS gives a 21st century face to the struggle of indigenous people. The production, a collage of text, masks, drumming, sound, music, and dance, depicts the push and pull of resistance and assimilation of urban Native Americans into modern-day society and at the same time, celebrates the diversity of Native culture and enduring spirit.
