Producing Director

Cristin Downs is a theatre maker and manager. She is the Producing Director of Mirage Theatre Company and is currently working on touring productions of CEDARS and Distant Survivors as well as currently collaborating with June Prager on Broken Dolls, a piece about women, rape, and human trafficking. Cristin is also the Artistic Director of Lovers and Madmen, a Shakespeare troupe, and will produce Julius Caesar in 2013. 

Cristin formerly worked at Riverside Theatre as General Manager/Producer where she produced: NuDance in both 2011 and 2012, a dance festival for emerging and established choreographers; Dr. Glory's Youth Theatre, a yearlong theatre training program for teens; The Nutcracker, the family classic; Obie award winner Daniel Beaty’s world premiere play Mr. Joy; The 14th Annual New York Family Arts Festival, a 10 day series of arts and culture events; and Uptown Jazz Society, a jazz benefit for Hurricane Sandy Relief. Cristin has also general managed Women of Excellence, an event honoring important women in the arts, for the past two years with this past year honoring Cissy Houston. Cristin produced and directed Twelfth Night at The Riverside Theatre, the first production in a Shakespeare on the Terrace series. While at Riverside, Cristin project managed a significant renovation of The Riverside Theatre and two additional performing arts spaces at The Riverside Church.

Prior to this work, Cristin directed Metamorphoses and The Reincarnation of Jaimie Brown with Lammas Tide in Southern California. Cristin has also stage, production, and event managed around the country at such venues as: HERE Arts Center, Clarence Brown Theatre, South Coast Repertory, International City Theatre, Chance Theatre, Peach State Summer Theatre, The Eldorado Hotel & Casino, The Children's Theatre of Knoxville, Erin Stage Company, UC Irvine, and Disneyland Resort. 

Cristin serves as the Board of Directors Secretary for Friends of Cedar Crest Performing Arts, an alumnae organization dedicated to keeping arts funding at her alma mater. With like-minded women, Cristin recently started a new initiative called “Rape Is Not,” which calls for a national movement to define rape for what it is. In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, Cristin worked with the newly founded NY Helps NY on the relief effort and for which she received Cedar Crest College Alumnae Association’s Award for a single exceptional achievement. Cristin has her Bachelors degrees from Cedar Crest College in Theatre and Psychology and her Masters of Fine Arts in Drama from the University of California, Irvine. www.cristindowns.net
